About Dr. Chi Ekwenye-Hendricks

Dr. Chi Ekwenye-Hendricks, typically known just as Chi, is the founding director of Right Steps Inc. She has committed her life working towards saving children and homeless women who do not have the resouces or opportunities that so many people have.

Chi grew up in southern Nigeria during the Nigerian Civil War (1967-70), observing first hand what starvation and homelessness can do to the lives of children.

“I am what I am today because somebody cared enough to give me a second chance in life.”

It is Chi’s goal to be able to reciprocate that blessing, giving back to those who are less fortunate and cannot take care of themselves.

After growing up and being educated in Nigeria, Chi came to the U.S. to work and continue her studies. As a female in a male dominated society, she was not granted the same level of credibility that an educated man would typically receive; therefore, she came to America, where she acheived graduate studies, including a PhD from the University of Georgia.

While in the U.S., Chi gained valuable experience working with families and underpriveledged children through Georgia AGAPE. There she received valuable training and education on working with families in need.

Upon completion of her school and work experience in the U.S., Chi returned to Nigeria to launch Right Steps, a human rescue mission focused on providing relief services for orphaned children. The organization’s first project was Susana Homes, which serves orphaned children and homeless women. Susana Home remains the primary initiative by Right Steps, in addition to numerous other projects that have developed as the organization has grown.

Chi manages the day-to-day operations of Right Steps at Susana Homes. She works along side the Right Steps Board of Directors and other supporters to insure the organization’s goals and objectives are acheived.
